The Copyright Laws of China exercise the principle of automatic protection,
i.e. the author can enjoy copyright protection automatically upon the
accomplishment of a work without going through any formalities, published or
not. To maintain the author's legal interests and rights and to settle possible
disputes of ownership arising from automatic protection, the administrative
department of China accepts the voluntary registration of works. But the
voluntary registration of works is only the preliminary proof of the attribution
of copyright, not an essential formality.
